1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? We started in June with seven chicks from a local farm store ( actually 8 but one died). Never had chickens before but have had other birds like parakeets. My grandfather was a poultry farmer and I’ve always wanted to raise chix.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now? Seven. Also have three pekin ducks.

(3) What breeds do you have? Two buff Orpington -one is the only rooster we have,

two barred rocks ( sweet little gals), two Araucanas ( blue/green eggs) and a brown mystery hen

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? I think it’s in my blood. Love it all!

(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Computer games, puzzles, worrying about my chickens

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I have two kids, five grandkids and two great grandson ( yes, I’m older than dirt). We have an 8 yr old terrier, a15 yr old cat, a huge goldfish and some uninvited mice.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? Found it online - not sure specifically where. Joined for help with my feathered babies when I need expert advice.

I think your feathered babies are already in good hands! Especially with that great hobby: worrying about my chickens; I totally understand that one.

And, the uninvited mice! My farm house must have some kind of welcome sign, invisible to humans but incredibly obvious to the little critters, because herds of them have been rushing in this winter.

Welcome to BYC! You sound like you will fit right in!!
