Hi all,

I'm new here and new to raising chickens. My wife and I just got 2 Australorps and 2 Gold-laced Wyndottes back at the end of March. They were 5 weeks old at the time so we are hoping for eggs sometime around the beginning to middle of July. My wife has some experience raising chickens when she was a kid but it's all new to me. I lurked a lot on this forum before we took the plunge and I have already learned quite a bit. I look forward to learning more and sharing.

Hello,
We too are new to this, We have 4 chicks 2 weeks old. I think we live kind of close. We are in Bradenton. I'm probably over thinking the whole thing. I keep reading and researching things about these cute little girls and most my questions lead me to this web site. It sure will be nice to have egg ready some day. Good luck with your new little ones maybe I'll see you posting more.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your flock, hope you get those eggs soon!

Welcome to BYC!

Australorps start laying at 6 months old. They can take a bit longer than other breeds to mature. Not sure about your other breeds.

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!

Thanks for the tip TwoCrows. I read that 18-20 weeks was when chickens started laying. I didn't realize that there was such a swing depending on breed.
