Sweet babies you have there!

Welcome and what a great coop! You can't have roosters? That's a real shame as I have one, didn't really care what my neighbors thought, figure i have to put up with their loud, thumping music, screaming, barking dog, general redneckness, so they can listen to my roo!! And in all honesty, no one has complained and I have a farm and were in a rural setting with horses, so even if they did, not much they could do, we are allowed. I love my rooster, Chief. Here he is, he is a Buff Orpington:

Thanks for the welcomes!

CarliLynn, your rooster's a beaut!
Our zoning is a bit strange. We lived in an area of S CA that has regular tract housing neighborhoods in between more rural areas and wineries. We live in a more rural part with lots ranging from 1/2 to 9 acres (we live on 1 acre). We're zoned for horses, but believe it or not, we're only supposed to have chickens if we're in 4H! (we're kind of skirting that, hoping no one checks), but we're definitely NOT allowed to have roosters.
I think rooster are beautiful, but then we'd end up with more chicks than we know what to do with!

What do people who don't want their roosters do with them?

Well....while you DO need a roo to fertilize the eggs, unless you have a hen who goes broody on you, you have no worries of babies. Not sure if someone told you that with a roo you would have babies coming out your ears...lol. I have one hen, Zoe, out of 8 who so wanted to be a mama, she would not lay, sit on eggs and i would have to push her out and make her go eat, but she got her wish 2 weeks ago with 6 new babies.

Honestly, Chief is not loud or obnoxious at all. I just talked to another neighbor right next door and she said he isn't a problem at all, that she rarely hears him, and even then it isn't often if they are outside.

Can't wait to see when your babies get to be adults, wait till you get your first egg!!

I had two extra roo's and I put an add up on Craigs List and they both went to good homes, my favorite roo, Pipin, is only about a mile away.

Welcome to the forum, I am new and scouting around for info too ~
your chicken coop is fabulous!!

The sentence "Chicks are seeming a lot like potato chips!" made me smile & giggle

Best of luck to you!

Actually, you're right, CariLynn. I was really worried about the whole rooster thing, but I don't know why I was worried about...
~ a bunch of chicks - again, you're right, they only hatch if sat on!
~ and if one was a rooster, we could give keeping it a try, and if it became a problem, then we could find it a home.
Makes me less nervous about getting more
