I'm very new to the chicken world too!
My first hens arrived fully grown from a friends flock. It was a lot of work keeping those girls happy through the winter considering our coop is at our "cabin" without running water or electricity, but we managed! I've had them for about 6 months now. Expecting my first round of babies in just over a week!
We have 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Partridge Cochins, 1 Black Orpington, and a mutt for a roo. I also recently acquired 4 lavender Araucana chicks from a friend/co-worker...doing my best not to let those beauties become favorites!
