Thank you! I've been reading a lot here but somethings I'm just not sure about. Differing opinions and all that. Like apples and seeds so I just go with the safest. No apple seeds, no tomato plants.

Welcome to Backyard chickens. I just spied that you have Cocker Spaniels. Great!

I used to breed & show cockers in the late 60's to 1980. My last few lived to 14 years of age and 1 made it to 14.5 No matter how long a dog lives, they always pass away too soon.

As with just about anything, ask 10 people and you get 11 different answers, lol. There are very few questions about chicken keeping where there is just one right answer. ....the key is taking in the information, choosing what parts seem they would work for you and your flock, trying that and yhen, if need be, starting over again with another way. According to what you can read here my birds should have all been dead 100 times over going way back to my first flock son 30+years ago

Thank you all for the warm welcome s! I did find quite a bit about dealing with bickering hens on here. I finally figured it out. They're just like dogs in that they have redirected aggression.

a mockingbird that warns n chases a new neighbors kitten away started coming into the run for whatever the chickens hadn't eaten. Hens went after bird then turned on each other. Stopped putting out food hens didn't care for ,bird stopped coming in.

A friend gifted them to me when her dog had pups.

I had no experience with cockers before. This pair has been a lot of fun and warmth to my home. They're 8 years now. 14 years, I can only pray mine do so well
