Hardware cloth is definitely best for a no dig apron. Never use chicken wire for any type of protection, it's much too thin and flimsy. Good luck and have fun with your flock!

Welcome. If you have aerial predators - I think we all do - remember to cover your runs. I was kind of extreme and netted my entire backyard. But I wanted to let my chickens kind of free range and I have a lot of hawks.
