hello from W KY

I remember telling my husband I just want 2 or 3 hens, no rooster and now several months later we have grown:), it actually started out with my son getting 2 chicks from science class, leghorns a pair of big white pretty things, we lost them through the winter and then our friends hen house got a fox in it and they lost all but 2 golden comets so they brought them to us to live out the remainder of their lives and we just couldn't stop with just 2

Welcome to BYC! You have come to the coolest place on the internet for chicken knowledge.

I started with chickens last summer and the people of BYC have been great. This year I have tried hatching and buying chicks for even more chickeny joy. Please visit my BYC Page for my blog links that you may find informative or amusing.

Thanks everyone for the welcome!! I will be down to 8 chicks and getting 3 new ones. (My spouse says he is not sure how we give 1 away and acquire 3 new ones?) It's my special type of math! 1 of my silver laced wynadottes is a male!! Fortunately, I have a friend who wants a male and is chicken savvy, so now I will get another silver and hopefully 2 goldens. May do red or black sex linked tho. Hhmm will have to c. But it depends what my 7 year old son wants since that is his chick, he gets to pick out what type he wants now. Heading today to get materials to start building my coop!! Fortunately my hubs is patient and willing to help me. I am power tool challenged (always go against the grain when using a chop saw especially to cut smaller pieces-note to self, after going with and getting a nice split eyebrow from it when the wood flew up n smacked me in the face) With luck neither of us will end up living in the camper before we are done!!
