My husband and I are new at this. We are looking for a couple of egg laying hens. How do we go about doing that?

First of all:

I would suggest researching and finding a hatchery near you, or find a feed store or a breeder that has chicks for sale.

from Ohio. If your looking for hens I would get them from a hatchery that can sex them for you. Feed store usually don't have them sexed and your looking at a 50/50 chance of getting roos. Good luck.

I would do some research and decide what you are looking for. Another thing to look at is what your area will allow - roosters/no roosters, number of hens, etc. You should also just start looking through this great site and asking questions. There are so many people on here that have great information, ideas and encouraging words.

If there is a local feed supply store or TSC near you, they probably have baby chicks soon or maybe already. Some might have sexed chicks and some might have straight run (mixed male/female).

Good luck and have fun!!!!
