I've been lurking and reading and learning for a few days, what a great site you have here!
I live on the Oregon Coast with hubby, daughter (13), son (8), greyhound, cat, bettas, discus, and hermit crabs.
Our neighbors got 4 chicks this spring but just learned they are moving overseas! I don't know what got it in my head to adopt their chickens. Maybe it was when my daughter was taking care of their house and it seemed pretty easy! They should start laying any day.
So I am planning my coop and pen, it will have to be a fortress to keep out the raccoons, hawks, coyotes and such.
If anyone has any suggestions on what paint or materials are safe or unsafe, I would love to hear! (I will do some searching in the forums later.) I plan to use wood from our old deck railings, they havebeen treated with Thompson's Water Seal over the years.
I look forward to learning lots here!
