We have had chickens since our 2 kids started in 4H. We have frizzles, silkies, production red, marans, orpingtons, sex link, cream leg bars, barred rock banty and d'uccles. I would like to hear more about how to help my hens when they get colds or go off their feed.

Hello northern neighbor.

Generally if a chicken gets a cold it's a bad thing. There are lots of nasty diseases that involves the respiratory system. Best to prevent them if possible. Good ventilation is important. I do know migrating birds can bring stuff in during fall and the shifting weather can trigger illnesses.

If your chickens aren't eating well there's definitely something very wrong with them.

Sharing more about your set up and feeding might help to see where you could change things.

:welcome

Hellow N W You don't talk much do ya ? I noticed you joined in 2009 and only posted four times in all that time  You got to learn not to be so shy . :lau For colds I us VetRX not a cure but it helps them breath better . If they are really bad do what DD said . But really drop in on some of the hot threads and get friendly and make new friends . We all like to help folks but most of us have our favs and hang on them most of the time . But everyone is welcome everywhere . And there are great folks all over the BYC.:frow
