Hi there, everyone! I'm excited to be a member of BYC! We live in Port Angeles, WA up in a rural spot and are owned by 7 hens - 1 Barred Rock, 2 Delawares, 2 New Hampshire Reds and 2 Welsummers (we will be adding 4 Ameraucanas to the flock soon) - and 3 small dogs. My hubby built a 7' x 4' coop and a 28' x 12' fully enclosed run for our girls. The dogs have a big, fully fenced in backyard to roam in. The dogs do stay in the backyard when we let the girls free range. We have only lived in our home for 1 1/2 years (moved here 2 years ago), but we love it up here. I'm looking forward to learning new ideas for raising our hens and sharing some of their antics with all of you.

Your coop and run set up sounds awesome. My girls free range and hang out with our dogs too, they get along great. Of course, the dogs are really only interested in their poop :sick so it's never been a problem. You have a nice assortment in your flock, I think you'll really like the Ameraucanas... they come in so many different color variations and their fluffy beards are so cute! Best wishes!

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock! :welcomeBYC is a helpful site providing all of the information you need to know about poultry. There is always space for members on the BYC roost! :highfive:

You are lucky to have free range chickens that aren't bothered by the dogs! They can be one of the susceptible predators when allowing your chickens to free range.

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!

We are always outside with the hens when we free range them. My hubby keeps a .22 nearby to scare off any animal/bird that tries to mess with them (which we haven't needed to use yet). They pretty much stay near us when they are free and all will come running when we shake their treat box (empty soft butter container filled 1/2 way with scratch, seeds and herbs).
