Hello,
After reading through lots of threads for research I finally joined! I have four six week old Salmon Favorelles and I am looking into also getting some D'uccles. My son has his heart set on getting naked necks but that is looking like a next year project as they aren't available locally.
We unfortunately has a loss today of our fifth chick, which is what led me to joining. I will post a separate thread in the proper section but I had run short of hardware cloth and not yet done their door. A hawk clawed through the door and maimed and killed a chick. I want to make sure that 1/2" hardware cloth will prevent any future injuries or deaths as opposed to 1/4". I'm sure it will be back.
I feel awful as this was preventable and it is my responsibility to keep them safe. It is also so heartbreaking. The kids and I love these chicks.
But on a lighter note - a huge thank you to everyone who takes the time to post replies because I've learned so much using this forum as a resource.
