Hi There!

They are not living there 24/7...just sleeping there...they will have the run of the garden in the daytime when it's safe for them to be out. We live in a cold climate....so packed in there all together hopefully will help to keep them warm
I'm just trying to help prevent problems. You wiill no doubt have serious problems especially since you live in a cold climate. You need more ventilation than what this thing has too. Living in a cold climate might mean you birds are going to need to spend more time in a coup when the ground is covered with too much snow which for sure means you need bigger and more ventilation.

Hello, welcome to BYC.
If I were you, I'd cancel my order for those coops. You can build something more appropriate, and healthier, for the money those cost.
I know you may think we are being judgmental, we aren't. We have learned from experience, both our own and others.
We are concerned for the stress you and your flock will face, if you use those coops.

Hello, Tammy, and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Well, we'll see how it goes...might have to invest in a 3rd one!
Unless you split the flock, this won't work. They start as a flock and roost together
so packed in there all together hopefully will help to keep them warm
It doesn't work this way.
To stay warm in a cold climate they need lots of ventilation to the tune of as close to one square foot of permanently open ventilation per bird as you can get with very good air turnover in the coop.
And you wrote you were in a cold climate. Where will they go when there's heavy snow on the ground? They'll be crammed into a teeny tiny coop. Trust us when we tell you, this isn't going to end well.
Do you have an old garden shed on your property or could you get a hold of a used one or even buy a new one? If you do I would convert that into the coop. It will work out ever so much better for you and the birds if you did something like that.

Last week we visited a person 20 miles from us who has two of these, and they have used them thru the winters with zero problems. They love them. So...we'll see how it goes.
