Thank you and I agree! People are so friendly and helpful and (my favorite part) nobody judges you for being new and inexperienced. The first time I had a hen go totally broody I thought she was dying. I was minutes from heading to the vet with her when I found this site. Thank God! Saved me a lot of money and my poor chicken a lot of unnecessary stress. I've learned so much since then.
I'm just seeing this now, but thought I would still say howdy, neighbor! I'm in Pitt County.Hi, I'm G. I live in North Carolina by the coast. What a wealth of great information you have here. A little over a year ago a neighbor gave me a couple of day old chicks (unplanned). I was clueless so I pecked the brains of local farmers. They said "you can't have just 2 chickens. They need a flock. One may die and chickens are not good solo." Feeling guilty I went and got 4 more once I got coop set up. Now I'm a chicken mom to 6 hens. (That wasn't on purpose) Now 6 months together and the older 2 still refuse to speak to the younger 4.I learned by self educating but I sure wish I'd found this site sooner. As for breeds.. they all are different sizes and colors (a silkie, a polish, a little red Bantam not sure about others). But I'm still learning, and welcome tips or suggestions.
