Good day (or night)!
For as long as I remember, I loved birds. They were my passion. I found them fascinating, endearing, and very, very sweet!
I have a lot of budgies - the original population was only four. Now it's up to twenty or so... and still counting! I've asked my mother what we're going to do with them, because our cages can only hold so much, and we're planning to donate them to the zoo (they have a budgie exhibit) but I'm not quite sure if they could do that. Alternatively, I guess we could give them away to relatives and family friends. Or sell them. But to who, I really have no idea.
So, yeah, I know this site is called BackYardChickens and not BackYardBudgies, so let me ramble about my chickens a bit.
We originally bought two pullets, named Yin and Yang (their baby picture is my avatar!). I think they were about 2 weeks old at the time, but I'm not quite sure. In any case, they grew up to be such fine hens.
Our uncle soon brought us six other chickens. We named them Almonds, Tundra, Halcyon (Cyon), Equinox (Ekkie), Mama Mia, and Presley. Unfortunately, Almonds passed away from some sort of sickness at a young age, and just last month, Ekkie was killed by a small bird of prey. Mama Mia... well, she passed away mysteriously. We just found her in the coop like that.
Cyon, Tundra, and Presley are doing just fine, though. Right now, Cyon is hatching a batch of eggs, and some of them, according to my parents, aren't even hers - they're Tundra's! Who, by the way, is so adorable.
Funny story. Ekkie and Cyon are silkies, and when we first got them, they looked exactly the same. Our uncle told us they were both female, so we just called them "the twins." Imagine our surprise when Ekkie started crowing and developing a darker sort of coloring - that's when we finally gave them proper names.
Ekkie mated with Tundra, but I'm not quite sure what breed Tundra is. I suspect she's a Pekin chicken, but I'm not sure. But, we incubated the eggs Tundra laid, and now we have three hatched chicks and another one on their way!
And, uh, yeah. I just love talking about my birds, haha.
It's good to finally register. I've been eyeing this site for a bit now and got a lot of information from it. So, thanks all, and I'm glad to be here!

I have 23 chickens...started out with wanting 8.
I think she is just traumatized from being looked at in the store and not being hand tamed at a young age. Oh well!
