In the Brooder
20 years ago I told my husband I wanted some chickens. He did build me a chicken coop....but then we had two sons, and never got the chickens. Fast forward 20 years....my sons are grown now. I got them involved and FINALLY got my new chicken coop AND the CHICKENS! I am sooo in love with them.
This is a pic of them right after I got them. The BO is Chicken Nugget. RIR is Lucille Ball. SLW is Chicken Noodle. BR is Ethel Mertz.
This is Matey keeping an eye on the babies.
My 17 year old in the run. He wanted the chickens to climb all over him...they weren't cooperating.
Mate is still watching the girls.
Here are all the girls. Bottom Left: Ethel Mertz, Lucille Ball, Chicken Noodle, (in front of her)Wilma Flintstone, and Betty Rubble. In the back: Miss Prissy(who I think is a Welsummer), Chicken Nugget, and Foghorn Leghorn(who I think is a Leghorn). I got Foghorn, and Miss Prissy after the other 6. The poor girls were stuffed in with 14 barred rocks who I think kept them on the bottom of the pile. I did a lot of reading on here before I got my chicks. I thought that the alpha pullets would take the top roosts but they seem to let the newer girls have the top. Maybe it's hotter up there? I have 3 nesting boxes that are removable so they are not in the coop right now. I am using the sand method on the bottom of the coop. It has been so easy to clean with a kitty litter scoop, and with a little PDZ it is odor free. I use a bucket with nipples on the bottom for their water, and the long pvc tube with two elbows on the bottom for their main feeder. I LOVE this site, and can't wait to learn more. Thanks to everyone here for your help.
