Yes, that is way too cold for young chicks. I would get a heat lamp instead of the black light. As long as they are up and moving around and not piling on each other, than all is well.

ok so we went and got a 100 watt red light. kept the temp right about 75 overnight. they were up still wandering happily around when I went to bed around 11. I am really enjoying how interested in me they are.
