Morning! We are Chris and Mike. Our family is new to chickens. We have 8 children, 6 which are still living at home. Everyone loves eggs so we decided to try our hand at raising chickens. We got our chicks ands ducklings when they were a few days old. We have Barred Rocks, Amerucanas, Australorps, Leghorns, and Rhode Island Reds. Cannot wait for the chickens to start laying. We know it'll be a couple of months yet but we are excited. Watching them grow had been great so far. The kids enjoy helping with the chicks and they love watching the ducks play in the tub.

Welcome to the group, it's been a source of knowledge for me. I started w my first birds a yr ago & now my husband is building me a walk in chicken coop to house 60 birds. I started w a little w everything and soon figured out that my favorites where the EE & Americana's. I love them for their egg color, sweet personality and they're a beautiful bird. Good luck, there's nothing better than fresh eggs everyday !

Hi :welcome Chris & Mike

Glad you could join the flock! Your chicks look adorable, I love baby chicks. Waiting for that first egg can seem to take forever but when you find them it's such a great feeling I was so excited when I found my first polish egg anyone woukd think I had laid it :cd Polish can be sporadic layers so I was just super pleased I had a layer. I'm sure you will be excited too.

Great to hear the kids are helping with them, raising chickens with children is lots of fun. I'm not a duck person but I'm sure they are lots of fun too watching them in the tub!!
Enjoy BYC and be sure to ask any questions you may have, everyone here to help and very friendly :frow

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Raising chickens is a great experience for children. My granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loves our chickens. Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds), and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children and granddaughter made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

You've picked out some excellent breeds. All of them have reputations for good egg productions and gentle temperaments.

Good to hear that your children are enjoying keeping the chicks and ducklings. Raising birds and collecting eggs is a very good experience for children and can be quite fun.

Good luck with your ducklings and baby chicks. I've never kept ducks before (only chickens), but have always wanted to! If you have any questions regarding your ducks, be sure to post in the Ducks section: Ducks

Thank you, everyone! We are enjoying this experience. We started with these this year and thinking of getting some meat birds next year. I will be sure to bring any questions to this site as so far it has been extremely helpful.
