How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

1 egg today from one of the six bantams. The 5-year old Buff Orpingtons (as of last March) are taking the winter off. My 7-month old Brahmas and Wyandottes haven't started laying yet (except for a single egg last week). We don't have enough natural light yet, and most winter days are cloudy and dark, so I will make do with 1-2 bantam eggs daily for now.

16 today! 4 who have been laying have not laid today so that means about 20/43 or so are laying again. I get to re-discover some of the pullets’ eggs as several took a break shortly after starting up.

Getting a decent lineup of OE eggs. Top is the mom to the middle two and quite like the bottom one as well but have not confirmed yet. Bloomy chocolate egg for comparison, from a half sister.

Today we hit the mother lode, 19 eggs. I really cannot remember last time for that - back in the summer likely.

Of course that includes a couple wee silkie eggs, and this strange one.

I noted this egg seemed to have some sort of membrane like material on it, grabbed it when first laid. I left it and it dried a bit.

When I picked at the material it came away leaving the inner membrane intact. Looks like the shell didn’t form there or something….?

Is it ok to fry up and eat?
I had a duck egg like that not long ago!
I'm sure its harmless to eat.

2 today. They’ve taken to laying in the deep corner under the coop, making me army crawl to grab them :,)
So glad I'm not the only one who has to do this from time to time. Once I kinda forgot their hidden spot for a while and just figured one particular hen was going on a break. Took a peek and saw a pile of her eggs mixed with a handful of others, about 20 total. They really keep me guessing on where their next spot will be!
