New here and to raising birds.

1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Hey buddy, who are you calling a chicken, huh....I'm here for ducks, maybe look into quail and/or chickens after I feel confident with ducks.

(2) How many ducks do you have right now?
0, I am in the researching phase, yet I hope to be up and running with 3 ducklings over the next few weeks.

(3) What breeds do you have?
I'm looking for sociable egg layers, that are too big to really fly. Currently I have began the hunt for Pekins, yet I have contacted 2 farms and they have said that because of inflation and shortages they are hard to get because feeding them is too costly.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Honestly they seem to be hysterical, and I hope to enjoy them as pets, that also are companions with my dog as well as egg layers.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm learning how to: do basic gardening, raising and harvesting rabbits, and hunt, also I like to watch/listen to a good college baseball, football or basketball game, have a few beers and laugh with a good friend or two.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I am a bachelor, yet I am on good terms with my siblings and parents.
I have a year and half old golden retriever who is funny, has perpetual fomo and outsmarts me all the time.
Currently I am a public school teacher, yet I have grown very wary of the direction of the system, and I am leaving my job to pursue other educational endeavors.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D
online search, just learned about it

Welcome to BYC from North Jersey. Settle right in and ask all the questions you need - there are real experts here on all aspects of raising and caring for chickens and ducks.
Like @sourland I also noticed the two ducks in PA looking for a home - maybe they would be perfect for you to start.
Enjoy the BYC community.

In the 'where am I, where are you' social forum someone in allentown Pa is looking to rehome two ducklings.
Thanks, I've been in contact with them. I'm looking for females, they don't know the sex, and from what I read figuring out the sex can actually harm them if you are not experienced at doing so, so I don't want to risk it.
