HI y'all! I'm in East Mesa Arizona, (HOA Land)

I have wonderful neighbors that are all willing to put up with a few cackles now and then, Thankfully.

I worry , though, because my girls just started laying a couple weeks ago, and boy are they vocal about it!
Is there anyone out there from my area that also live in an HOA that can give me some heads up if I start to have problems?

Love , Love , Love my little girls, their eggs are yummy and don't want to have to get rid of them!

Is there a certain coop design that will muffle their noise when laying that will work for both summer in our oven out here and winter such as it is?
Hi there. Welcome to BYC. I also live in far East Mesa, in an HOA. So far, my neighbors are ok with my chickens. I have 10 girls and they all lay. They are very vocal after laying. My neighbors can't hear them when they are in doors and aren't bothered when they are out. I live near the 202 and Guadalupe. I cannot offer any short term solutions to sound control but for long term you could plant taller evergreen shrubs close to your coop which will help muffle sounds.

Howdy feathers4,

I'm curious how this turned out for you?? I just got chicks a couple weeks ago and I'm also in an HOA in east Mesa (near University and Signal Butte). I have great neighbors. But I'm afraid to tell them because our next door neighbor was the president of the HOA (and said he's going to return to the board next year), the neighbor a door down are also our friends, but the wife is on the board. And our neighbors on our other side are very quiet (but friendly when we see them) and mainly keep to themselves.

I know our HOA specifically prohibits chickens. But I only have two and I'm trying to do it on the down low. I don't know what to do though because I just watched some videos on youtube and the chickens were a lot noisier than what I was expecting!

Have you had issues? How have you handled them? Have you had any problems with the HOA or management company? I doubt my neighbors would be against two chickens, and we're on good terms. And I'd love to share my excitement and future eggs with them. But I'm scared that if I tell them, they'll notify the rest of the HOA. Eeeek! Then again, I've also thought about petitioning to have our CC&R's revised, but who knows how that might turn out, and then you've announced to the world that you have chickens.
