Hi y'all....am brand new to the forum AND a brand new chicken owner, lol....
Came home from my son's house Friday night with five chickens in the back of my SUV (thank heavens he had a cage, lol)....he had an over-abundance of chickens, all of them pets, so sent some home with me.
We own 14 acres where we just built a new house, moved in this past summer....the acreage previously had an old barn on it and I had enclosed a portion of it in preparation for chickens....my intentions are to let them roam free like my son does....wish me luck (or rather the chickens, lol)....they seem quite happy penned up for now, will leave them that way for a week or so.
Two of them are young bantam roosters, very gentle and don't mind being picked up and held....my son said they were best friends, lol, we'll see.....
Another of the five is a large, beautiful rooster, still young enough not to have spurs....will also allow you to stroke him, so hoping he stays a nice boy, lol.....again, we'll see
The other two chickens are hens, about half-grown....they're not too fond of me yet, lol
So, as you can see, I'm off to a great start even though I have no idea what I'm doing....will certainly need some guidance so thank you all in advance!!!
