I am not new to chickens but I am new to this community! I've been raising chickens since I was about 10 (11 years), and have won a couple of state 4-H competitions in poultry judging and trivia.
I currently have a flock of 22 chickens and 4 ducks. Their names, breeds, ages, and sexes are as follows:
Cowboy-mostly Bantam barnyard mix, unknown age, male
Abigale, Buffy, Honey, Lacy, Lucy, Margaery, Scarlett, Sunny and Tiny Tim-Cinnamon Queens, 5 1/2 months, female
Nekhbet (f) and Rascal (m)-Egyptian Fayoumis, 5 months
Floof-Golden-Laced Cochin, 2-3 days, female
MaryKate and Ashley-Unknown variety Orpingtons, 1 week, female
Hope-unknown variety Phoenix, 5 1/2 months, female
Ozai-White Phoenix, 5 1/2 months, male
Butter-Sicilian Buttercup, 2-3 days, female
Henrietta and Luna-Silver-Laced Wyandottes, 1 week, females
Charlie and Shiloh-Turkens, 1 week, unknown sex
Alice (Black Swedish), Bella (Khaki Campbell), Charlotte (Pekin), and Esmeralda (Cayuga), 2-3 weeks, *should be all females
I say should be all females because the ducks have only been sexed by amateurs (myself and a TSC employee).
As ya'll can see I do have some rare and delicate breeds so if anyone has any insight on raising them I'm happy to hear it! Also this is my first time raising ducks so any advice in this area is welcome!
It's also worth mentioning I'm trying my hand at incubation for the first time. This is day 2 of my first batch, I have 14 eggs from my Cinnamon Queens and 2 eggs from Nekhbet in the Bator. All three of my roosters are potential sires. Let me know what tricks you guys have tried that did or did not work.
As for me I also keep bees and like to garden. I'm currently finishing up a double Associates, am in massage school and building a business. Right now I just sell eggs and honey, but my long-term goal is to build a company that shares and emphasizes methods of mass production that are efficient, sustainable and eco-friendly, you can check out my business FB page here: www.facebook.com/pg/bleedingheartsharvest
