so i am new to the group i think i kinda am new to chickens but we did have them all my life as a kid. but have had alot of pets large and small all my life, probably to many at one time most times in my life... life is pretty crazy for me i own and run a daycare center in our old family house and built a new house outside of town and live there with my little family, my father and my adult daughter with her 5y old daughter (my granddaughter) both live in separate apartments that have been made for them, pretty nice set up for all of us, husband and i have a 10y boy thats and animal lover as well..
we started our little flock at the daycare center because i had a few kids that didn't understand where eggs came from and that snow balled into us getting some girls at home as well.. so to make things short,.. we had 24 very very very tame girls and then monday we sadly went to 16 after the dog got in the coop... we have a mix of lots of different kinds.. and will be adding a few more soon to replace the ones we lost... girls have a very large run and up till this week they got to free roam on country land on weekends while we are home .. think my husband would say we have them for eggs but the kids and i say they are pets first then eggs as bonus.. would be very interested in finding rare and breeds that need to be protected and help keep some of them around.. we live in oregon near salem area .. we have very easy weather,,rarely to hot or to cold.. not much snow but lots and lots of rain..

Raising and breeding endangered birds sounds like a rewarding project. Make sure you have enough space for everyone (you'll probably need separate breeding pens) and also get everything really secure and predator proof.
