Hi!

Thanks everyone! :D
I'll look into the electro-netting pen idea! Some of our friends live in the Rockies and they regularly have bears, mountain lions, etc. They also have 30 chickens, and they have an electric fence around the coop. I think it's 20,000 volts, might be more, but they haven't had any deaths since they put it up. They keep them inside the run full-time though - we free-range them for a few hours each day, but we're usually watching. Would a bear be brave enough to snatch them from the yard when we're there? If so a pen at least 1/4 acre around the run might be a good idea :)
Thanks again for all the great feedback!

Bears are usually nocturnal so I think you'd be okay.

Okay! Additionally, I've heard about cougars and bears standing on the roof of a run, breaking it, getting in and reaching the chickens that way... is that likely? Also, wondering if it'd be safe predator-wise to leave the door to the run open through the night? Thanks!
