In the Brooder
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
My hubby and I are new to backyard chickens. We got our hens April 27/19.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 6 (we wish we'd gotten a few more).
(3) What breeds do you have?
They are Lohmann hens (a high laying hybrid I believe). Developed in Germany.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
We love having fresh eggs, but we also love our chickens! They "talk" to us, and we let them out in they yard and hang out with them. They are very vocal and we're learning how to differentiate them by the sounds they make.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
We love being outside (but not in winter haha), camping etc. I like to loom knit also.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We have two adult sons and two dogs. One is a border collie and my hubby is training her how to herd the chickens. She watches them like a hawk! We joke that she's watching CTV (Chicken TV). But she is very gentle with them, even though they have pecked her on the nose a few times haha. Although we aren't naive enough to leave her unattended with them when they are out of their pen. The other is a 14 year old cairn terrier but he doesn't spend much time with the chickens.

I found BYC when I was googling about treats for the chickens. Lots of useful info here!
