It's been years since I was on a forum like this! I've been posting to Reddit, but this place constantly comes up in my searches when I have a question, and the answers seem to be on point consistently.
I'm fairly new to chickens, but not to keeping ... well, not unconventional pets, per se, but I've been caring for specialty pets for a long time (since I was a kid). I was going to try keeping parakeets (budgies), but realized I just don't have the personality to train birds lol so I decided something domesticated was more my speed and got myself some chickens
I've had my little flock of 3 Easter Eggers since about mid-August of 2018. I started with 5, but one died suddenly with no sign of illness, and I lost another to raccoons. I added a male silkie to my flock to breed my hens, but he wasn't a very good roo! He mated them, but mostly was pretty antisocial, so I found him a new home with a gentleman who had a great big yard for my boy to free roam
I put the eggs the silkie and EEs produced into and incubator, but decided I wanted to expand my flock with some different breeds and ordered some eggs on eBay. I just hatched 2 silked easter egger chicks today, and I have some brabanters and a sibling to the silked EEs on the way if everything goes well! I also just set some creveceours, beliefelders, bantam cochins, serama, and svart hona, and some leftover EE eggs this week. I don't know how many, if any, eggs will hatch for me, but I'm hoping my flock will be colorful and full of personality
I'll be posting questions and pics from time to time. I'm looking forward to meeting everybody!
