Some people seem to think obsession is a bad thing -- not here! Chickens are how it started for me. Then ducks. Then a couple of geese.

As I was preparing for a slight surgical procedure yesterday, I was explaining to the prep nurse the nutritional difference between chicken eggs and duck eggs, and how some birds lay all winter and others don't (in all fairness, SHE started it by asking me what I'd done in the morning before I came in; I just saw it as an opportunity to educate. lol).

I try to check out BYC every day because I am always able to find something of value -- sometimes educational, sometimes just entertaining. People here are always willing to help you, share their expertise and when you need it, emotional support.

How many do you have? What breeds?

Thank you! i have 6 hens and 4 ducks. (So far) Daisy Mae is an easter egger, Stella is a black copper marans, Bridget is a bantam australorp, Millie is a welsummer, Avie Lee is a rhode island red, baby is i guess a "fibroegger"? (Ayem cemani x easter egger) and for ducks Isabelle is a cayuga, dolly was supposed to be a cayuga but i think shes mixed with khaki campbell. Eloise is a khaki and annie is a pekin! i had another easter egger june and a cayuga alice who were taken from me by a fox

welcome to BYC! which do you like better, chickens or ducks?

Thats very hard to say . I love them both... they have their pros and cons. I love how the ducks listen like dogs.. they come whenever i call.. they seem to understand "no" but the hens are much cleaner. I have had the hens longer.. they are more independent but i just love their individual little personalities.
