I’m new to this site but have had chickens for just over a year. We hatched 11 chicks from 12 eggs, quickly lost quite a few to the local fox, ramped up our security and now have 4 hens and a cockerel. The cockerel is a bantam pekin, the hens include 1 Appenzella, 1 Orpington, 1 Wyandotte and 1 cross. They are not great layers but they have great character and usually busy themselves about the garden all day long. Right now they are kept in a covered run because of the Avian Flu risk. Hopefully they, and the rest of the country, can emerge safely in April 2021.
