(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
We got our first batch of chickens in March from TSC. So, we’re still new at it, but having a lot of fun.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
13. We got the first six from TSC, and then someone gave us a batch of eggs that we hatched on June 30, 2022. 7 successfully hatched.
(3) What breeds do you have?
We’re still new to the game, but what we pulled from the bins were 2 golden laced Wyandottes, 2 buff orpingtons, 2 australorps that are both a grey color, and 2 from the bantam bins. The one I believe is maybe like an old English or something, and the other is gold sebright. The chicks are supposed to be jubilee Orpingtons, but they are not show quality or anything like that so some look a little orange lol
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Their personalities make it really fun. We have loved watching them grow up. We only have one laying eggs, and it’s the little sebright. Her eggs are so stinking cute and the perfect size for the baby
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Hiking, foraging, reading… and is working a hobby?
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
We’re a family of four. The kids are still little, not even in school yet. We have 4 dogs, a cat, a lizard, the chickens, and some goats.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I’ve been creeping on threads for awhile. But now that I have chickens, I have some questions.
