Hi BYC! My name is Maddy and Iive in Ireland. I thought of chickens as just ordinary animals until about a year ago when I met Snowflake the chicken at my workplace. 
One day she flew out of the big pasture we keep the chickens in. We had to keep putting her back, we even trimmed her wings but it was no use. Once she realized people were eating food at the benches, she was unstoppable. You'll regularly see her sprinting around hoovering up any dropped chips or fries. A child recently told me that she stole an entire Freddo bar and ate it, seemingly with no ill affects. Bad chicken! But she is such a character, and so entertaining. I host educational talks for the kids during the day, and ever since she got a bite of a kid's rice krispy she comes running when she hears me talking over the microphone. I just love her to bits!
Now we're planning on getting some hens of our own as a family for eggs, I'm nervous but very excited as well.
Our handmade coop is well underway, it needs ventilation and a good paint job but we're nearly there. We are planning on getting a few Rhode Island Reds, at least one Leghorn, and I'm allowed to pick out my own chicken! The Bluebell breed seems very cute, but it all depends when we actually go to the farm. I might end up with a Maran instead!
