Pahoa, Hawaii
Hi,

I live out near Pahoa on the "Big Island" Hawaii. We have a lot of feral chickens here. About 1 1/2 years ago, I took a little interest giving some treats once in a while to some chickens out in the front. They started to follow me up to the spot where I would give then some cooked rice or some bread crumbs.

Now its 25 + with hens, baby chicks and several roosters. that I feed in front of the carport. 3 were taken by rooster thieves last year and the one I took care of got taken a couple months back. :(
I have learned some thing by just watching how they interact with each other. while I sit on a chair. Its kind of relaxing for me.

Right now I have a young rooster and a young hen that will come up to me and up on my shoulders. Not at the same time though. Some will come up and eat from my hand or onto my lad and I can pet them.

I look after my mom who is 91 so I am not working. Started early ss and a little VA comp. Served 4 years in the army. Other hobby art- drawing, painting. - not much fo that now. Competiton shooting - cut back to a couple times a month. I got interested since I was on the Battalion pistol team and did well.
Have a dog Ruby. She s 10 years old and looks like a Belgian Malinois. She doesn't like chickens though.
I was interested in joining because I can learn here. What others do and what kind of experiences -( short time) with the chickens I have seen and taken care of.

Aloha,
Will
