Hi, I'm Asha! Totally stealing the template questions lol
Anyways...
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
- Not new to chickens... or any bird really! I grew up with chickens and now I have a variety of birds!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
- About 30 (its been a while since I counted lol) in the group I have 4 roos and the rest are all hens! My bird ratio is off but they were all hatched and raised together and I haven't had any issues while I work on fixing my ratio lol (bird math, the number only ever seems to multiply....)
(3) What breeds do you have?
- I have mostly Heinz 57s (Mixed) but I have a handful of 'pure' easter eggers, and I suspect I have a full black australorp or 2. The rest are All Mixed (hatched myself!) My crosses are a haphazard mix of EE x BA, EE x RIR, Maran x Unknown, and Unknown x Unknown.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
- To be honest, my heart lies with waterfowl. I look at a goose and all I see is a precious creature who can do no wrong. I see a duck and I see a little darling. However... with my recent work with my flock of chickens.... I must admit they've grown on me significantly and I love watching them free range around the farmyard!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
- I like writing and making little bracelets as forms of creation, but I adore cooking and baking! (Which now that I think about it.. is also a form of edible creation...)
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
- I raise sheep primarily, my Bird Hoard is a 'side project' XD In total I have chickens, ducks, will be getting geese again soon, and recently had King Quail (shout out to the Quail Collective, you were *so* helpful) The farm also has dairy cattle! Tldr, a Lot of Critters!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
- I looked at BYC years ago now for learning about raising geese, then ducks, then quail, annnnnd now I caught myself reading the Free To A Good Home section and realized "okay. I'm actually invested in these guys aren't I?" (I was deluding myself lmao) So now I'm here to hangout, chillout, and feed my need to have Copious Quantities of Fowl
(Ps. I have someone who is my self control and can say "no" when we go to the feed store and I see the chicks and ducklings are on sale XD)
