Hi Ersula. Nice to meet you. I'm Angela (dsquawker). Welcome first of all. Coop designing can be overwhelming. Just make sure when you make their laying boxes that you have one box for every 3-4 hens that you'll buy. Any chicken in my opinion is great to start with, but it depends on what you want. We like a variety of game birds and layers/dual purpose. That's because the game birds (who lay but not as much) can be so beautiful and then that balances out with getting some eggs from some also beautiful birds like Buffs, Wyandottes, or Reds. The Ameraucana/Americanas are different so don't mix them up. Easter Eggers are fun. Bantams are what we started out with. They are okay and some people are really into their bantams. We like medium to large egg layers. Banties are really for show because they lay such small eggs but can be very flashy. Your flock will build and change as you begin to learn and explore more than what you ever imagined. Good luck and nice to meet you. Oh here's a photo of our blue-laced Red Wyandotte. Kind of new to America and great brown egg layers. Very pretty too.
