Hello, my name is Lisa, I am new here. Wanted to intro. Myself. Been reading the threads and getting lots of good info, thanks all! I have 14 hens and one rooster. I'm a proud new mom to 5 baby chicks that my fat little coachan hen hatched. (This is a total first for me, I'm so excited!) but I may have a problem, since I've taken the chicks out (and into the house under light) my hen hasn't returned to the remaining eggs, which only have a couple more days to go. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks much!

It may mean that your hen thinks the unhatched eggs are defective, or sometimes they get wrapped up in the chicks and just neglect the others. If you have a incubator, you could try and see if the leftovers are viable.

Welcome to BYC. When working on a staggered hatch (eggs set at different times under the hen), the hen will very frequently leave the nest within 24 hours of the hatching of the first chicks. Her instincts tell her that she must leave and lead her chicks to food and water. In my experience it is very unlikely that she will return and set on the remaining eggs.
