Hi,
I have had Isa Browns for years. We only have one left and I am planning in getting chicks for Christmas. There is so much useful information on here. Thank you everyone.

I'm getting them from a local breeder.:jumpy I might try getting eggs in the future if i get a broody hen, but I probably won't try mail. My only fear is that some will turn out to be roosters.

That perturbs a lot of people, it's not what happens IF you get males - you will definitely get males - how many is uncertain but, even 1 is a problem if you have no takers.

Some people think nothing about making dinner or soup out of extra males. Others are horrified by the thought. I'm not taking sides - people have to do what they are comfortable with.

So it's good to have a plan b.
