I just found this site while looking for info. on how to fix a chicken's broken leg. So happy I found it, I found so much good information.
I bought 4 pullets last week and somehow one broke her leg. I actually found a mobile chicken vet who came out today and put a splint on it. Hopefully she will be okay, she is very sweet.

Curious to know if anyone uses wood pellets in their coops. I started using them last year in my horses stalls and decided to try them in my coop. I am so happy I did! The clean up is so easy, never any smell in there are virtually no flies. The best part is, I can leave them in there for about six months before changing them. I have 14 hens, the 4 new pullets and 1 rooster so it can get messy. Probably sounds crazy but every morning after I let them out, I use a cat litter scooper to clean it. My coop is an 8x8 shed so it's a pretty big area but only takes me about 10 minutes to clean it. Just wondering if anyone else uses these.

I hope your hen recovers.

No, I don't use pellets, but they do sound very interesting. Glad you joined!

Welcome to BYC!

So sorry about your pullet and her broken leg. I sure hope it heals up well soon!

I have never tried using pellets for bedding, but you might ask this question in our Coop and Run Construction forums as there are probably lots of members that have used this for bedding...

Great to have you aboard and welcome to our flock!

Thank you! I just gave that a try. Just want to make sure they're not bad for the chickens. I'm hoping not because I haven't found an easier way to keep the coop clean and the cost down!
