Hi!

Welcome to BYC!! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

You sound like me; before I joined I always was sent here when it came to chicken questions! LOL. So glad you joined us!!!

Welcome to BYC! A lot of us have the same story as you do. There is a lot of useful information on this site. What kind of chickens do you have?

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, many of us have joined on here because googling a questions always leads us to BYC! So since you are here.....you may as well join!

Make yourself at home here and welcome to our flock!

Michael, we have a Easter egger, barred rock, road Island red, white leghorn, buff orphington, black cochin, and a laced polish. They are all pullets, and turned 2 months old today. No roo yet. Not sure what we want to go with our mixed flock.

You have a nice, mixed flock. There's no need to rush to get a rooster. You certainly don't need one for eggs. For years I kept roosters and hatched chicks, but currently I have no roosters, just hens. I have become utilitarian in my old age and primarily keep chickens for maximum egg production. Without any roosters, I do not have any extra (nonlaying) mouths to feed, my hens are not harassed, I have no crowing going on, and I can replace my hens whenever I need to from outside sources. I realize that this is not for everyone, and I might decide myself to get a rooster or two again down the road, but for now I am content to be roosterless. If you do decide to get some roosters for your mixed flock, I would suggest that you go with breeds where the roosters have a reputation of being calm and gentle (at least for roosters). Among the standard sized roosters I have had over the years, the best tempered ones have been Black Australorps, Buff Orpingtons, and Light Brahmas.
