silkies are not known as great layers but, at least she has the right spirit. Generally silkies make great broodies which means they sit on the eggs and hatch them. They go broody at their own desire. But, if you have fertile eggs available from any hen or other source you can slip them under a broody silkie and she will raise them as her own.
Many people keep silkies for just that reason - then they do not have to use a incubator.
They are also a big favorite with kids, and do well as house chickens.
