Hello, I live a small town called Canby, which is about 30 miles south of Portland, OR. I've just gotten my first batch of chickens, and it has been a wonderful experience so far. I have 2 buff orpington, 2 speckled sussex, and 1 barred rock. Right now they are about 18 wks old, and are just as fun and sweet as I had hopped. Before I got them, I used BYC as a learning resource, and I plan to continue using it to learn and talk about chickens with others.

Welcome! I just joined BYC yesterday but I've been lurking for a long time too. It really is a great community. 18 weeks is an exciting age for chickens because you never know when you'll find that first egg!

This is the place to be for all the learning and fun!

Make yourself at home and ask any questions you may have. And we do welcome you to our flock!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I have visited Portland on a number of occasions; it's a very beautiful area and Mt. Hood makes for a gorgeous backdrop. I've raised all three of your breeds, and you have a really nice mixed flock; hardy, friendly and docile (my children made lap pets of our Buff Orpingtons and Speckled Sussex), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
