I just added ten speckled sussex chicks to my family. We live in Kansas and the last month has definitely been an adventure. I never thought I would become attached to a chicken...or ten! But they've been a blessing and a great addition to our little farm.

I've heard speckled Sussex are good layers and a docile breed.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Speckled Sussex are a wonderful breed. They are hardy, friendly and gentle (my children made lap pets of ours), and good layers of large, brown eggs. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Speckled Sussex.

I just joined today. Congrats on the new babies! I feel the same, had no idea that I would really enjoy it as much as I am!

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Congratulations on your new additions to your family :celebrate Raising chicks is such a fantastic and rewarding experience. Yes many people don't realise how attached you can become to them. I know I certainly did not realise how much I would when I first started my chicken journey.

Wishing you the very best of luck with them in the future. Enjoy BYC and all the chicken chat :frow

Good morning and welcome to BYC!

What a coincidence...I grew up in KS (live in Florida now) and we have 3 SS in our mixed flock. They are some of the sweetest birds we have, and so pretty. Here's a photo of one of ours:

I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do! Nice to have you join us and if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Welcome to BYC. We love our one speckled sussex. I'd like to have a whole flock of them like yours. They are so attractive and personable. Although the rest of our flock is pretty lean, our SS is very fat and sassy!
