Hi

Hi Michael,

Actually I have been curious, our australorp has remained quite small, yet the research I've done on the breed state that they were roughly the same size as Lohmann's fully grown.

She's a sweet little thing but isn't picked upon. Actually the chickens are all pretty placid. In fact BK (australorp) is actually one of the most pushy and she's always in the food dish, however has remained small while everyone else has about doubled in size. In your experience is this normal for the breed?

No, it's not normal. If anything my Australorp hens have tended to run a little heavier than my Red Sex Link (Lohmans) hens. However, just like with other animals, there can always be a runt with any breed. I've had a few runts in my flock over the years, and other than being small for the breed type, they've been healthy enough, so I wouldn't worry about it.)

Hi Michael,

I thought so... Ours is small. Not tiny or skinny by any means but probably about a good inch shorter than other chickens.

It's not a concern really, just a curiously since my research said they were a large breed. As you said though every breed has its runts.
