Hidden Lavender Silkies

So is this a good thing or bad thing to have?
If you cross a hen that produces these colored smokey chicks
with an unrelated white roo will it help in eliminating the smokey colored chicks? Or should you just not breed the whites that carry this smokey coloring?

I hatched some of these out myself They are very pretty birds but some are not pure white. But otherwise very nice birds.

Thanks

Anyone? What lines carry this trait?

Thanks

It doesn't seem to matter. I've had this color in my line for years. I intensified the color by line breeding to see what would happen. The result is the male in the pic I posted earlier. Paired with the right female none of the chicks hatch the gray color.

And no, it is not lavender. Lavender is a completely different shade. And no its not the off color of Dom white.

I personally think the color is very pretty. Anyone else have pictures of their smokey whites? I'll get a few of mine and post soon.

Many whites, with the silver gene, hatch out blueish in color. a friend of mine hatches large white plymouth rocks, they are even blue legged the first couple months, then they turn yellow. They are the whitest birds ive ever seen... although they do not feather out smokey as they mature, i think it is a similar thing.

I think you're right except that judges don't think its the silver gene showing up. Who knows, he's neat looking, gives me white chicks with a white hen and black with a black hen.

I've been lucky with the recessive whites so far- they aren't blue past the chick stage. I do love the sparkling bright white you get with the recessive whites!

So if they keept he bluish tint past the chick stage as adults what is this considered? Not a recessive white? Is it ever desired?

Yes, it is recessive white.

This is where Sonoran needs to step in since she's got the background on why this is going on.

Desirable? Not in a show hall. But it has no affect using them for breeding.
