Navar looked up at her from his sitting position and stated, " I was never really with him. Markus was a business associate and a means to an end. With all my dealings with him, save one. He was personable and business like, despite the the few veiled threats. It was a transaction in it's most basic forms. But until I crossed him, did I come to know the full brunt of his ire. For my slight, he wanted me dead. When I said I crossed him, all I did was refuse to take payment for Amar. I couldn't take money for her. Because she had shown me the true horror of what I'd done. The lie I'd told myself all those years. That sacrificing a few was for a greater good. I was so wrong, all shifters are precious." He stood to go to Dawn. "From what you have told me, he'd kept you locked up. How did you work for Markus, to make you feel you betrayed him? " He rephrased his earlier question.

Phury growled at Zia and tried to bite her. But his head movements were limited. He still had the winged lion clawing up his back. He ripped at the tail some more with his embedded horn. It started to draining Pyro's blood across half his face as he hit an artery.
Pyro roared in agony as he released the spikes from Phury's hands. He needed his tail to fly and defend himself. Unlike lizards, a dragon's tail didn't grow back. But the horn was still holding them together.
