Darn this is an old old thread !!!! But this is interesting!
I don't normally browse this topic so I found it on new posts......
I am at 3000' & also very dry, but 180 miles from the big dist Center of Denver. There has been a lot of chatter on BYC about shipping eggs, packing, etc., me being one of them. I have been disappointed at the packing method when opening a package when you spent good money, with the expectation of getting a well packed product.
One of the factors that I believe in, is the fact that the USPS has been
downsizing by closing small offices and distribution centers. So all of our mail goes to Denver for 1 night, then Colo Springs for 1 night, then on to us the next day. That makes most of my priority mail taking at least 4 days. I picked up 3 packages yesterday, 2 mailed on the 29th from Idaho & Oregon, then 1 from Horstman in PA. The one from OR sat at the PO over the weekend because the PO office closed at 11am, & my husband left when the carrier tried to deliver on Sat am - I didnt get off work until 11:30. AAAAhhhh!&%#
.
I am hoping to hatch 10 of 12 phoenix eggs from Boggy Bottom Bantams on Thursday, which may be my best hatching from shipped eggs. And that package only took 3 days!
I had a package missent (according to USPS tracking) thru Grand Junction and took 6 days to get to me. That was a package that had to go over the continental Divide to find its way to me! I think I may still get a couple of chicks with it the end of the week.
I may owe Dustponds10 more money because he sent me another doz hackle eggs for that missend...... If I get more that a doz chicks out of 2 shipments.
So I think there are so many other factors in this that the risk of something not going right, is there.
I only want to try to ship some Sumatra eggs this season but I want to
lurk this thread because we all have the same issues!!!!
