High cal foods? Related to Olivia is sick thread

Well, she has access to all those -- a smorgasboard, actually -- but since she's not eating well, she's going for the yummier things. And I want her taking in lots of cals w/ each bite since she's not eating well.

Catch-22 I guess.

Yeah, just keep her on electrolytes to compensate for water loss. When she's done with the antibiotics I'd give her some Probiotics (or some really fancy yogurt, like the... danactive or whatever it's called?).

She is already getting full-fat yogurt w/ acidophilus added (the ones that claim to have acidophilus in the yogurt lie -- it never stays active w/ all the processing they do, so you have to add good quality active acidophilus). There's no point doing it AFTER the abios - you have to it DURING the abios (and after), as I am.

I haven't added electrolytes. What would I use? I can get them for the horses, but haven't used them for smaller animals. Brand? And will she just take it in her water?

The yogurt won't help now. The antibiotics will kill all microflora, even the beneficial ones. Antibiotics literally means "no life," so it kills all the bacteria in her body. It won't hurt her, but it won't help her.

Most electrolytes serve multiple species. Check the label of your horse electrolytes. If you're not sure, go to your feed store and pick up a new bag that has poultry on the label. They're cheap, about $4. Oh, and 1/2 tps electrolytes per gallon water. Unless it says otherwise on the label (it'll say dump whole bag in 100-someodd gallons water, but you don't have to do that).
