High side litter box/pan for sand bath?

Could I use a high sided litter pan/box as a sand bath or would it be too high for them to get in? Trying to stop them from emptying the pan in 10 minutes...

I built a run around a cement mixing pan. I have a 4x4 piece of lumber inside and raised bedding outside. I like that cleaning the sand is easy: sift some and replace (and wash) some every few days. I'll try to post a picture soon.

How high are the sides. Do they get in ok?

Sides are probably 6 inches, so they do need a platform (like the 4x4) on the inside to get out. To get in, they usually jump off of the vinyl plank, or climb in from the elevated bedding outside. Here's another angle.

How do you wash/clean the sand (besides sifting)? Just rince it?

How do you wash/clean the sand (besides sifting)? Just rince it?

I usually rinse it over the lawn to put nutrients back into the soil. Then, I dry it on a flat tray under the patio table. After a while it just becomes part of the routine.
