What IS dial-up? I've used kind of slow internet but I don't think it was called dial up. Could someone explain?

My Memaw had dial up and once upon a time my family probably had dile up

I got Dsl a few days before i joined byc.... usually i would go to maybe 2-3 sites and would take an hour just to go to them. After got dsl i had all this free time and found byc

Well I'm happy I've never experienced dial up. I like being able to check all my favorite sites within an hour!
