Went to Hocking Hills this weekend. It was the annual winter hike down there, which we did not know about until we were down there. So we ditched the one extremely busy trail and did others instead. The first picture is from Cedar Falls, the second picture is Old Man's Cave Upper Falls and the last picture is Ash CaveView attachment 4285486View attachment 4285488View attachment 4285489
Those are some gorgeous looking waterfalls! Love the icicles in the last one, looks like teeth ready to munch up anyone getting too close.

In my opinion, the best hiking experience is often "the road less traveled", the ones other people don't use.

I've been on a few snowshoe hikes so far in January. Basically every time there's been sun mid-day. Which usually means cold, cold, cold! I've frostbitten my face a few times too many over the years, and need to be careful being out too long in below 0F. Still, can't resist the beautiful January sun.

But man! I'm in such bad shape!! :barnie I had injury after injury last half of last year, meaning not much exercise. I NEED to start upping my game.

This is our hiking time of year! This is the Painted Hills trail a few days ago, looking east towards Tucson.

This old cabin in the Santa Rita mountains south of Tucson is called "Bootlegger cabin." It was a home for miners working in the nearby (now defunct) mines and was also used to store explosives. They mined silver, copper, lead, and gold. During Prohibition the cabin was used to make and store alcohol to sell illegally in Tucson.

Some of the old mines are now protected bat habitats.

There's still some some rusty mining equipment there.

What an amazing landscape! And cool that you can visit and look at all that history. Old structures like that are fascinating! I stumbled upon a mining site last summer in a region not far from me, didn't even know they were there.
Wonderful that some of the mines are bat habitats too, giving them a future purpose. ❤️
