Hillsborough County, Florida: Legalize Backyard Chickens!

He's my commissioner too! Oh, he's gonna love us. I was told to reach out to P. Kemp too as she is our county wide commisioner.

I sent emails to both commisioners with the September document as attachment. If anything, maybe we can request some type of meeting or be in attendance when their already scheduled meetings are happening.

Response i just got from Chris Heintz, aid to Commissioner Christ, Christ doesn't want to change anything. He doesn't see the need for it.

I just all commissioners an email to reconsider during the next meeting.

So, it's up to us to demonstrate the "need". Did he happen to mention when/where the next mtg will take place?

After reaching out to the woman, Bonnie, who originally created the HC backyard petition under gopetition.org, I got her permission to use some of her data and to revamp the push. Please visit the website to sign the petition and tell your friends and families. Also, I would love to create some type of member group to help assist with this push. For instance, start brainstorming/creating a framework to take to the commisioners. Anyone willing to join the fight with me? I have no problem being the speaker at the meetings.

Update.

I spoke to Holly East who is the aide to Commissioner Pat Kemp. She sent me the parts of the last meeting and reports. She thinks the commissioners stopped but perhaps left it open for determination on a case by case basis. She copied Joe Moreda in Zoning. i am no attorney so the reports and discussions are a little overwhelming to understand.

I spoke to Joe. The way the ordinance is currently designed there is not flexibility. I pushed the issue and he is to get with the legal department to see if there is a way to get minor exemptions or possibly alternatives. Waiting on the call back.

Holly is to return on Tuesday and asked that i update her. Appears we have some inside help at the moment.

All i got right now. What parents do to get their kids a pet chicken. :)

has anyone looked at the term "household animal" in the code. I cant find where in the code where its defined. this is no different then keeping your dog or cat outside which you bring in side occasionally. just curious if anyone looked at this.

In Residential Districts
1.
No animal, other than household animals as defined in this Code, shall be kept in any residential zoning district.

I personally scoured the code for their definition. There isn't one-definitions online define it as a domesticated animal that lives within the household that's utilized as a companion. Maybe someone else knows differently? Where is everybody:(
